March For Jesus began in 1987 with a small group of worshippers walking and praying around Soho. It quickly grew to the biggest single prayer event worldwide, mobilizing upward of 11 million people each year worldwide taking praise and worship to the streets. MFJ was followed by ‘Jesus Day’, and in 2000 the Global Day of Prayer was launched in Durban South Africa. GDOP has grow to mobilise 240 million people each year.
March for Jesus events are sometimes organised by individual churches in Southwark and sometimes as a borough network.
